About this course

Already an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson (EAS)? Upgrade to EST registration in three days.

The EST Upgrade course is for electrical workers who already hold EAS registration, or who have completed an EAS course, and want to gain EST registration. It covers only the EST-specific theory and practical work. No repeat of the EAS content you already know.

Once you hold EST registration, you'll be permitted to service, repair and connect portable and fixed-wired single and three-phase appliances as defined by the EWRB EST scope of work - a significant expansion on the EAS scope.

Course format

The EST Upgrade course is available in two delivery modes. 

Block course - Three consecutive days on campus. The fastest pathway to EST registration for existing EAS holders. 

Night classes - The same content delivered across six weekly evening sessions. Suits learners working full-time who can't commit to consecutive days off the tools. 

As well as attending these sessions, you'll also work through six EST-specific theory modules through The Learning Hive. Weekly drop-in sessions are available nationally to connect with a tutor and get support with course content. 

Once both components are complete, your course completion will be signed off and you'll be able to book and sit your EWRB EST examination with ASPEQ. 

Who this course is for

The EST Upgrade course suits: 

  • Currently registered EAS workers ready to broaden their scope of work 
  • Workers who completed an EAS course in the past but never gained registration 
  • Experienced appliance servicepersons seeking commercial or industrial work opportunities 
  • Career progressors wanting to move into three-phase work 

Entry requirements

  • Hold current EAS registration with the EWRB, or provide evidence of prior EAS course completion 
  • Meet EWRB eligibility requirements for EST registration 
  • Be able to safely participate in practical workshop activities 
  • Provide evidence of a current first aid certificate (within the last 12 months) 

This course is not suitable for learners without prior EAS experience. If you don't hold EAS registration or haven’t done an EAS course before, enrol in the full EST course instead. 

What you will learn

  • Three-phase fundamentals and motor theory
  • Three-phase extension lead construction and testing
  • Three-phase motor starters and control circuits
  • Fixed wired appliance disconnect and reconnect (single- and three-phase)
  • Three-phase sub-circuit work, isolation and safety tagging
