Skills Trades Training updates roofing training direction
Skills Trades Training is no longer accepting new enrolments into the Roofing Level 4 programme, effective immediately. The qualification expires on 31 December 2027, and Skills Trades Training remains committed to completing all current apprentices before this date.
This change allows Skills Trades Training to focus on developing new training solutions while ensuring current roofing apprentices receive uninterrupted support through to qualification completion.
Where to find roofing apprentice training
Prospective roofing apprentices are now being directed to Vertical Horizonz for their Level 4 apprentice training needs. This ensures continuity of roofing apprentice training across New Zealand while Skills Trades Training develops its next generation of roofing programmes.
Customised training solutions launch
In place of the traditional apprentice programme, Skills Trades Training is launching customised roofing training solutions designed specifically for roofing businesses across New Zealand. The new service addresses the immediate training needs of established roofing companies wanting to upskill their teams.
The customised training programme offers flexible, needs-based training delivery with both campus and on-site options available nationwide. Businesses benefit from fixed daily rates with no per-participant fees, and all content is tailored to specific business requirements covering technical skills, health and safety, and supervisory topics.
Herman Heunis, an experienced roofing professional and registered Licensed Building Practitioner, delivers the training with practical, industry-relevant expertise that can be adapted to individual business needs.
Future roofing micro-credentials
Skills Trades Training is developing a roofing micro-credentials scheduled for launch in Q3 2026. These short, focused courses will provide nationally-recognised credentials in specific roofing skills, offering a more flexible pathway for skills development in the roofing sector.
The micro-credentials will provide roofing professionals with targeted qualifications that can be completed alongside work commitments.
Ongoing sector support
Despite the programme changes, Skills Trades Training maintains its commitment to supporting New Zealand's roofing sector through responsive training solutions that meet current industry needs.
Roofing businesses interested in customised training solutions can contact the Skills Trades Training sales team to discuss their specific requirements and arrange tailored training programmes.
