About this course

Anyone wishing to register as an electrician in New Zealand must meet the criteria set out by the EWRB. This course builds your knowledge of New Zealand's Electrical Regulations and their application, and prepares you for your Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) Electrician Regulations examination.

Learn the rules that govern electrical work in New Zealand. Our tutors know their stuff and will guide you through 60 hours of training designed to get you exam-ready with the regulatory knowledge you need on every job. The AS/NZS Standards provided for all Regulations course attendees include the Electricity Act, Electricity Safety Regulations, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3001, AS/NZS 3760, and ECP 34.

Course format and requirements

Complete 60 hours of self-study then attend a 5-day block course (Monday to Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm).

Once you have completed this course, you will need to make a booking to sit your exam with ASPEQ. Please register with them to enrol for the exam. We will confirm with ASPEQ that you have completed the course before you will be allowed to sit the exam. You must attend 80% of the course for us to approve your exam with ASPEQ.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for the Regulations course and examination. However, to be eligible for registration (unless exempted by the EWRB), candidates will need to demonstrate to the EWRB that they have completed either 2 years practical training/experience in the work of an installer, obtained whilst holding a Trainee Limited Certificate (TLC), as well as passing the Installer theory exam and practical stage assessments, or 8,000 hours practical training/experience in the work of an electrician, obtained whilst holding a Trainee Limited Certificate (TLC), as well as passing the Electricians theory exam and practical stage assessments.
