About this qualification

This part-time electrical engineering qualification trains you to install, maintain, and repair wireless communication systems that power everything from two-way radios to remote monitoring networks. You'll work with the cabling, equipment, and devices that make wireless systems tick. Install repeaters, service broadcast systems, and troubleshoot telecommunications networks that businesses depend on.

With this certification you will be qualified for roles such as

  • Two-way radio installation and servicing technician
  • Repeater Installers and Maintainers

  • Radio Frequency Technician.

This programme includes the EWRB examinations required for registration and licensing as an Electrical Service Technician (EST). Successful graduates will meet the EWRB examination requirements for registration and licensing as an Electrical Service Technician (EST).

Blended learning delivery

You'll complete online theory modules combined with practical training. For the practical side, you can use your workplace experience (with job cards and service reports verified by your supervisor) or demonstrate your skills at our block courses.

Entry requirements

You must hold NZ residency, permanent residency, or citizenship and be employed in the industry with a supervisor holding a current EWRB practising licence of the same registration level or above.

You'll need NCEA Level 1 or equivalent: 10 credits in Mathematics, 10 credits in English, and 14 credits in General Science or Physics. You must be able to complete the programme in English.

If you're over 20 and don't have these qualifications, your work experience and practical knowledge may still qualify you if they demonstrate you can succeed in the training.
